Default Licks solo bag review

I picked up a licks solo bag from another forum member a while back and finally was able to use. So I'm posting my thoughts about it.

The quality and construction of the bag is very nice. The leather is very stiff and sturdy and it doesn't seem like this bag will have any sagging issues. It has a quick release buckle hidden under the strap which makes opening and closing the bag very simple.

Mounting the bag is easy and it will work whether you have passenger pegs or not. The bag has pre-drilled holes for running zip ties on both ends of the backside of the bag and comes with a leather strap for the center. I chose to remove the center strap and use a third zip tie for mounting the bag which seemed to work well. Once attached to the swing arm it is solid and doesn't move at all.

Getting into the bag is a little tough. This is probably my only complaint but I understand why it's such a small opening. The bag extends under the shock so the flap can't be as long as the bag or else it would hit the shock.

What I will say is that it's nice having a little bit of storage on the bike now. I didn't want saddlebags and a solo bag that mounts to the strut was out due to my side mount plate. I've seen some exhaust side solo bags but my thoughts on the solo bag is that it should be tucked away out of site which means primary side only so that was out. I've seen the new HD solo bag and that one is also nice. It's not as long as the licks but it seems a little wider. It takes the place of the passenger peg mount so that may deter some.

Anyways, sorry for the long post and on to the pics...

Ive been looking at this bag forever, and I think I just going to order one and be done with it. One thing though on your bike if you are not running belt guard be carfull, I remember a fourum member posting that his belt rubbed a hole through the back of his Licks bag.

I like the look but dont think I would find it functional enough as its too low to the ground for me. I like to stuff my shades, phone, etc and having to kneel down on my bad knees is too much.

I had the Badgcustoms solo bag but then added the sidemount plate so same issue. Just received my battery bag and hope it holds up. I added a plastic backing to keep it from sagging down too much.

Three Simple Questions to any owners of this Lick's Solo Bag:

1- Do you have to use the lower belt guard? How true is it that the belt would wear a hole through the back of the bag if the guard is not on...

2- Once the bag is on, how hard is it to access the kick stand?

3- Do the zip ties wear out the paint on the swing arm?

I'll add my 2 cents here. First is that at least in Arizona zip ties get brittle and snap all the time so I used both those and the leather strap but that leather strap has destroyed the finish on the swing arm. It did keep the bag on the bike after the zip ties broke but the strap does not keep it very tight.

Second is that the hole is way too damn small. The bag holds a good amount but the hole is too small to fit anything into , I had to cut it open a little farther so I could fit a DVD case into it and it is still a pain to do. Also it barely held a pair of mechanics gloves and a thermal long sleeve shirt. I can't see getting a jacket in there.

For the kickstand make sure the bag is all the way to the back and you may have to use your toe rather than your heel to catch it.

If I had to do it again I would just get the Badgcustoms solo bag.
