I though HD designed the Fat Bob just for the Euro maket taking the FXDXs place.
Never rode the FXDX to know the difference so I don't know which is the better of the two for handling.
But if a handling bike is what you seek there are better choices out there than Harley.
The Fat Bob is probably the closet out of the current bikes. The 49mm forks are nice, but the wide trees don't help. Also the front tire is a little too wide for ideal handling. The other negative is that it costs triple of what I paid for my excellent condition FXDX, and you still would have to spend a grand or more on the suspension.

True; anybody with credit can buy a bike that handles better than a Harley, but I want a Harley that handles better than stock...that's totally different...
I don't know what I am missing I guess. My FXDB rides just fine, stops just fine, and looks great. The FXDX looks very nice, and the T looks awesome. It'd be cool ir they were options for purchase.
Every time I think I need an engine upgrade for more power. I just remember that there is a gear lower than the one I am in. Pretty cheap power the downshift is.
today you can just get a fatbob and install taller Ohlins in the rear and front(or Works performance cartridges). Probably handle and ride even better than the FXDX.
While likely true what would it cost to make a new FXDX out of a fatbob? In addition to the FXDB purchase price you'd need to buy; better forks, shocks, move the pegs and controls back, install lower bars with new cables and brake line, add another front rotor and caliper, and add a tachometer. Did I miss anything? And after spending all that money you would probably lower its resale compared to a stock FXDB.
The factory could offer this new Dyna Sport for a little more than a fatbob. And with all the other Dyna improvements since 2005 it'd be way better than the old FXDX.
ridewva, Looking at your map, I understand why you never toured OK, but why have you never come to Texas? Just wondering. Lots of roads to ride here, N,S,E. &W...
Now, back to the FXDX thread, wish my dyna custom had the same parts as the DX... dd50

Sorry for the drift. LOL, I really DO want to ride around Texas and I've come close to doing so a few times. This year I actually did ride across Oklahoma, from Clayton NM (close to Texas) to Joplin Missouri. (I forget how to color in my map though.) I never passed so many cattle trucks!
If you were going to suggest one or two of the better rides in anywhere in Texas, what would they be?

fatbob comes with drag bars with 5" risers. As low as the FXDX. Forward controls are no problem(more folks would rather have than have not). Not to mention the fatbob was originally released with the choice between either forwards or mids from the factory. If they dropped the mid control choice...well...that speaks volumes for how few actually want them. So, really were talking a tach and taller rear shocks. Also works performance cartridges. all in all maybe 1200 bucks for the suspension(works performance) and tach unless you want to spend more on higher end Ohlins.
Oh the front tire is a 130-90/16...Crotch rockets have about the same width tire up front(120/17 is standard). The fatbob tire is better for handling than the FXDX stock tire was. When the fatbob was released mechanics, salesmen, etc. all raved to me about how it was the best handling bike Harley had out(xr1200 was not released yet).

Maybe we are forgetting how pricey a FXDX was compared to the other dynas. It was also blacked out. Maybe some people like that but if i paid that much for a bike it better shine. I hate to say this but a FXDX just had too many adjustment ***** and settings for the average HD rider to comprehend. You have to know how to set up the suspension and most HD riders don't know jack about rebound and compression damping. I know, i have tried to explain how the forks work and got blank stares. I have 2 settings for mine, "cadillac" and "mountain road". On "cadillac" it floats over bumps better than any touring bike and on "mountain road" it can keep up with some much sportier bikes. I have added fork brace, true-track, better tires, and floating rotors. HD makes money of off looks and image, not performance. Any further discussion on HD making performance bikes should reference XR1200 sales, truly a great performing and handling bike(i have one of those also). It was only late this summer that most shops cleared out their leftover 2009 XR's, dumping them at cost just to get them off the floor.
I stand corrected I mistakenly looked at the high handlebar Street Bob pics and specs instead of the Fatbob. The Fatbob is a nice looking bike.
While we're designing the next FXDX how about just a little more cornering clearance than the 35-34* the old one has? For styling combine the Super Glide Sport and Cafe Racer theme together? Sounds like what I wish for is a blend of two of Harley's worst sellers so I'm not getting my hope up. :-(
