Even tho you should get the service manual anyway the owners manual actually gives you all the information on changing the 3 fluids. Yes you can use the same in all 3 holes some do some don't manual calls for it. I went with the screaming eagle from the dealer cause then its on file for warranty issues (still kept receipts). Keep you receipts for records you be glad if you need any warranty work ever. Otherwise its fairly stright forward really. Warm engine drain and fill. If you don't buy your oil from HD dealer or local indy make sure you get your gaskets from them cause walmart is not going to have em.
I could see 3 qts if you do this otherwise I have let my drain for about an hour and 3 qts was to much had to let some out actually.
3 quarts your over filled. 2.5 engine,1 + 1 tranny and final drive, and I have been using amsoil in all three for three years. You can become an amsoil preferred customer and save some coin + they deliver your oil and filters to your door cheap!
edit= 2.5 quarts unless the manual you buy says different

I have an '08 streetbob manual states that the engine oil capacity is 3 quarts but in the maintenance section it says oil change with filter to refill with 2.5 quarts
Good on you for electing to self-service the scoot & save some ca$h. Fluids are easy maint & one of the best I've used is Spectro (http://www.spectro-oils.com/). 20W/50 in motor, GO in tranny & primary fluid in clutch. Few tips from the many mistakes I've made over the years:
1. Only fill engine oil until it's 1/2 between add & full, or you'll get right leg oil bath from breather.
2. Drain oil filter by punching hole in 6-o'clock & 12-o'clock on end before removing.
3. Charge new filter by adding oil (~1/2 ful) before installing & make sure you bead oil on rubber gasket, or it will weld to motor & be harder to remove for next change.
4. Have tons of rags ready - always a messy job w/poor oil filter location on HD.
I have always found the best deals on Mobil1. Its 2 1\2 qt on the motor unless you use a scavenger to get the 1\2 qt that stays in the motor after you drain it. 24 oz in the primary and about the same in the trans. I have been told by the indi I have used to use non synthetic in the primary because it likes to find a way out.
You guys leave 1/2 quart of dirty oil in the engine? Any of you ever use a
No, most of it will pour out. Don't forget what's in the oil filter when you remove it. I change oil after a good hard run, oil drains more complete when it's hot and thinned.....it will drip out well.
My dad also taught by the time I was 8 or 10 me to prep the new oil filter (like Iceman said).
Usually get around 2.8 or so qts back in..I have been in a rush and did 3 qts back in when I had to many beers to remember to stop that 3rd qt before it's all poured. No biggie...I put extra long hoses on my breather so she don't spit out oil on me. It's a lazy V-twin...plenty of room for less or more oil without doing any harm what so ever...there's no need to loose sleep if you did only 2.6 qts or did all 3.0 qts.
