But, my friend has a '93 Dyna with the twin front disc's and when I used to have my Ducati Monster a few years back, I could out brake him from the same speeds very easily when out riding together.....not that surprised either me or him.......as that's like comparing chalk and cheese.
I recall seeing some braking figures on Harley's a few years ago and was amazed and how far it takes to stop. I would guess the figure is somewhere in the 115' range, and most sportbikes will outbrake that due to weight.. If I can find the exact numbers I'll post 'em. I'm new to this site, and this is actually my first post. Got an 06 street bob couple of weeks ago and LOVE IT.. Had a Buell before that.
J has it right. Weight is the key. Below 40 mph the bike will stop faster than your car. Above that, not so. I wish all motos had antilock brakes. Most of us since we dont do it much are not that good at "panic" stops. Motos are great fun 0 - 60 mph. 60 to 0 is not a good thing. Most of my panic stops with the sliding slideways action were my own fault. Go gentle on the rear brake.

Well, welcome to HDF!!!!!!!!!!!! Lots of help, good ideas, and nice folks here.
1 5 4 FEET!!! that's horrible. Almost any commercially produced passenger automobile, SUV or otherwise will stop well before that. I guess that's one more reason we gotta be EXTREMELY observant of what's ahead.
Does anyone know what the 60-0 stopping distance is for a stock Super Glide?
I'm sort of in a debate with a sportbike snob. I can't find this information anywhere...
I think it would be reasonable to stop within 110-125', but there are so many variables involved, you will probably never get an exact answer.
I think the biggest variable is reaction time. After that it is apparently hard to determine exact stopping didstance until you get the bike below 40 mph.
Always hit the front brake first, and easy on the rear............. Rear brake doesn't do much to stop you.
