Vinyl does look good but I witnessed an experience with it that makes me never want to use it on any type of bike or car of mine.
My company had a car wrapped with vinyl and it looked great for about 2 years. Then it started drying out, peeling and cracking so we took it off. Removal was a nightmare in itself and it damaged what was underneath.
This car was outside in the sun almost every day and a bike may or may not be but from that experience I would never put it on my bike.

I would never use this stuff on a painted surface. The stainless steel fork tubes aren't going to have any side effects though. The adhesive comes off with acetone. MPK works even better if you can get it. I have access to gallons of the stuff.
