Im considering getting a low rider, and plan on taking alot of long road trips,I was wondering how it compares to a softtail on long trips as far as comfort goes?
I haven't ridden a soft tail, but I'd have no problems taking 5+ hour road trips. I say 5+ because that's all I've done so far. I'm sure I could do more.
Just get a good seat and foot position.
Feel free to send me an email with any specific questions you may have about long runs on a Dyna. I will do my best to help. Small, simple, quick adjustments make all the difference. Comfort has never been an issue while travelling on mine.
The rides listed in my sig line were all on a Dyna.
A detachable windshield will make for a more comfortable ride. And yes, a quality seat is also very important, especially for lower back comfort. The Dyna is heavy enough to handle well in the wind, and light enough to do twisties all day long.
I had a Heritage and tried for two years to get comfortable on it, bars, seat, etc, and never could.
Changed the seat, added a windshield, and rotated the bars a little on my Custom, and it became my best Harley, ever. Bags, sissy bars, etc will make it a great long distance ride. dd50
I do several long rides a summer. Longest I've been on the Dyna was a 2600 miles round trip that we did in 6 days of riding. It's no Road Glide, but they are built to be ridden. I normally wear a full face and have a quick detach sissy bar with a T bag, and a C&C Sport Touring seat for comfort. Thats it. I can't imagin a softail having any major advantages over a comparable dyna.
