Thunderheader mount question and my ongoing woes..
Picked up a Thunderheader for my 07 Bob with no rear mount. I've came across a mount from an earlier TC88 System. Per TH website the part numbers are different. Does anyone know the difference between the two and is it something a Drill/Vise/Hammer can fix?
Also if anyone has a Bracket they don't need I'll buy it.
I've had the damndest time getting a Thunderheader and now I've scored one and it looks like it's going to be a pain to get a mount. I've got a few people looking into getting a new one but something tells me it's going to be expensive.
I honestly think it wasn't meant to be. Any advice? (/wrists?)
Just feeling the water on a 2-into-1 exaust.
I wonder if the 09 needs a bracket too.
If you buy new it will come with one. I got a used one because I'm borderline poor.
I gave 290 for the pipe, 3 heatshields and bung plugs but it was without a bracket. I still hope it was a solid deal...
Depends, if the earlier mount is for an 06 TC88 Dyna it should work. The motor and frame were basically the same in 06/07 an 07 is a stroked 06 with slightly taller gearing.BUT if it's for an 05 it will not work everything was different. Not saying if you had a welder or a friend who was good at metal fabrication you couldn't make it work it just wont bolt right up.I think the 5 to 6 speed tranny cover is where it messes things up.
Thanks for the replies. The Older mount I found is for 05 and earlier, its not even the updated one they changed to because of the breaking. It looked similar when comparing pictures, but with just pictures of each it's really hard to tell lengths and angles etc.
I'll definately feel accomplished after I get this on, kinda like finding a unicorn...
Has anyone else had to purchase just a mount new? I won't be able to get pricing until Monday but something tells me atleast a cool hundo for one..
Do what you gotta do to make the Thunderheader work because they're one of the best sounding pipes out there. On my Sportster there is a noticeable difference in performance between the TH and some VH short shots. I want a TH for my Dyna but the pipes on it are still too nice for me to justify it with the boss....
First quote I've gotten for the new Mount is 85 Shipped. 290+85=375 For Pipe and the 3 heat shields (I may sell those). Still not too bad I guess, especially compared to new. I've still got to order some wrap and then I'm going to touch up some small runs where the guy painted it.
I'll deff post up when finished with some fresh pics.
id seriously think about keeping my heat shields for the thunderheader pipe. I wrapped the thunderheader on of my 04 lowriderwith heat wrap and ended up buying heat shields because I caught my levis on fire with the pipe wrap.
