It seems I go through rear tires pretty quickly. Currently have the 180/60/17 Dunlop GT502 sold at the stealership. Got about 6000K out of it and it's showing threads. Prior to that had another dunlop and only got about 4K.
Any other options out that that seem to last longer??
We recommend Avon and Metzeler tires to our customers, both brands are durable but there are differences between the two.
Metzelers have a harder compound which equals less grip but more mileage in the long term.
Conversely, Avons are made with a softer compound for more grip but tend to get less miles than a Metzeler.
In terms of pricing we carry both at the same price. PM me if you have any questions
The 180/60/17 Dunlop is only good for 6000 or 7000 miles. My next tire will be the Metzeler 170/60R17. My brother uses Metzeler and gets good milage on them.
I would also think that how stiff you have your shocks set combined with how heavy you are would also have an affect on tire life. Do you ride 2-up a lot?? carry a lot of stuff on your bike (saddlebags filled, etc) would also affect your mileage.
I do approx 90% solo 10% 2-up riding and my se180 is still good to go after ~5k miles. Plenty of tread left. No burnouts...yet. I also haven't been on a lot of long rides requiring a lot of 'weekend getaway' items.
I think it has more to do with my right hand twisting a little to much. I don't do to much 2 up. Mostly commute driving back and forth to work. I have had to put 2 tires on it this year.
Spoke to my guy at the stealership. $200 installed for the SE dunlop. I like that it's a 180, but still looking for other options. Metz has a 170...
Got a '10 wide glide with the rear dunlop 180, and I'm not really into that Fat tire craze. To me, a regular touring tire would be just fine, specially since I had to change it twice in 16k. I've been told by the dealer that it's normal, that there's no other tire I could put instead of the dunlop.
But here I heard about the Metzeler. About how much milleage should I expect from a Metzeller 180? over 12k? more or less? If someone tried it, please help me, 'cause I plan switching bike just for that matter of rear tire, and I love my bike.
