Default New Tire Time...........

Well my rear tire is toast, can barely see the grooves in in the tread pattern.

My front tire is still good for another rear tire, so that is leading me to just pick up a Dunlop rear tire and go with them for another year.

But part of me is saying pick up a pair of Metzelers and swap both tires now, and ride them out.

Who has the best prices on Dunlops D402's or the Metzelers ME880's?

Steve

Dude ... before you do that... think about this.... I've run dunlops, metzlers, and continentals.....have over 53000 miles on my bike ..... getting 9-10K on everything...... but a buddy of mine put the EliteIII dunlops on his RKC and just swapped out tires after 12,416 miles.... now he's a FREAK about his air pressure, checks it before every ride and everyday when we're out on the road.... he's got over 80000 miles on his '01 and used about every name brand....... the EIII is supposed to be dunlops extended mileage tire for heavy cruisers.....GOOD LUCK !!!

I am pretty much in the same position. I have 11,600 some miles on my original tires. I have 4-5/32`s left on them and am thinking I will go with both tires but am not sure what brand I will go with.

Ride Safe,

Mike

I got about the same out of my dunlops but went with the Metz ME880's this time around. They're a solid tire IMHO. There's a place called American Motorcycle Tire out of CA that has some great prices if you are mounting them yourself or know someone who can mount them. Beware though, both my local dealers now will NOT mount anything you didn't buy through them. Insurance reasons cited..

I get 2 rear tires to one front. If it was me Iwould just replace the rear and change both next year to metzlers or the dunlop elite III's.

That's about what I could get, 2 rear to 1 front.

My last rear tire I got 13000 miles, this one here I'm at 9000 miles. But I guess that's partly due to the motor build putting more power to the ground, harder take offs, less tread life.

I'm going to stick with a Dunlop D402 for now, I'll try a few places online to find a cheap price on a blackwall. I'm also going to call my local dealer to see what they would charge me. All I need is the tire mounted and balanced, I'll do the rest of the work.......probably going to change out the rear brake pads while I'm in there....22000 miles on them but they still have a lot of meat on them.

Any good places online for the Dunlops?

Seacoast HD in North Hampton N.H. quoted me a price of $110.00 for a Dunlop 402
earlier this month.

Stopped by my local dealer today at lunch, $108 for a new rear tire. $155 installed and balanced if I bring in the rim. So, I'll be doing that in the next few weeks......whenever the weather forcast looks like crap.
