Default A/f screw

Hell everyone I am a little over my head on this so here I go I have a 01 Fxd it runs good but my plugs are black I know that means that its running rich so do I turn that a/f screw in or out? Or do I get new jets? When I get on the throttle it goes no bogging down or anything my friends tell me too just leave well enough alone? Thanks for the help in advanced. What is the stock setting on the screw?

You need a bit more info. Is it a stock bike? Stock carb? How long have you owned it? Has it done this just recently?

BTW, it's not usually as simple as just turning the mixture screws in. I would guess that whoever messed with it, probably did more than just that and you probably need a complete tune on the carb. (turning in, makes it leaner). Picture pointed screws going into a hole. The more you turn clockwise, the more the point goes into the hole, letting less gas through.

Start by turning both screws all the way in until they stop. Don't crank on them-just turn them in until they feel seated. I'm not sure what the official answer is, but I would turn both about 2.5 complete turns out and see how it starts and idles. If you have a tach, I would look for around 700rpm and see what the bike likes best.

BTW, you need to look for a solid rpm after the bike has fully warmed up.

Might also check the enrichener (choke) to see if it's functioning correctly.

Good point. Make sure it's all the way in after it is warmed up. You could be chasing your tail if you don't know how one thing affects the other.
