Finally, The Perfect Seat!
I tried a Mustang Wide Solo but did not care for it. While it seemed like an exceptionally well made seat I did not like the way it felt, I did not care for the seating position and I felt like I was going to slide off the seat if I got a litlle aggressive with the throttle.
I then ordered a Corbin Dual Tour. I liked the seating position, I liked the contour of the seat and I loved the leather. The only negative with the Corbin was that it was very, very hard. I have two riding buddies and both of their Corbin's seemed softer than my Corbin. I put over 2000 miles on the seat but it was still quite hard. It never really felt comfortable. It wasn't uncomfortable but it wasn't comfortable either.
I had heard that Corbin will take back their seats and adjust it one time for no charge as long as they can reuse the cover so I called them up. The guy there said I should send the seat back so they could inspect the foam (it is possible to get a bad batch of foam). He said that they would inspect the foam and if everything turned out ok they could shave the seat foam down and add 1/2 inch of a softer foam. After approximately two weeks I got the seat back. I got a short ride in this past SUnday (about 60 miles) and the seat feels PERFECT!!!!! The seat now has just a little bit of give to it but it is still plenty firm for the long ride. I guess I won't get to really try the seat out until the spring but after this past weekend ride I think I finally found the perfect seat.[/

I give you credit for 20K miles on your stock seat. I got rid of mine at 600 miles. I got the Mustang wide solo and passenger seat and I really like mine. It does move you foward a little, but with highway pegs it was just right. I've tried the Cobins and they are hard seats. Also, the leather cracks after a while. That is just a trait of leather. Corbin did you right by readjusting the foam. I have removed foam from some of my past seats in order to get a better fit to my butt. Hopefully, you will get some warm days this winter for a little riding. It's in the high 60's during the day here, just for a while though, and I'm getting my last rides in for the year. Then I can put it up to rest for a couple of months before I start riding in late February.
I rode out to Sturgis back in 2005 and about half way through a 12 hour/500 mile day the stock seat really started to get uncomfortable. After I sent back the Corbin I put the stock seat back on and I couldn't believe how bad it felt compared to the Corbin. One of the really nice things about the leather is that it really holds me in place. I hope if I keep the leather oiled it won't crack but if it does that just adds character to the seat.
As far as riding I am in the process of moving out to Bentonville Arkansas. I'm hopping into my car on 01/02/07 for the 1300 mile drive out. My family will be staying back in NY for the next year and a half until my oldest finishes high school and to make sure I like my new job.
I have to figure out when the best window of opportunity to ride the bike to Arkansas will be. While the weather will be milder in AR than NY it is a 1300 mile ride and temps in NY will be quite chilly for a serious long ride in March and maybe even April. I am hoping to fly back home in early April and riding back to AK in two or 3 days. It's going to be really tough when temps start getting into the 60's and 70's and my bike is back in NY.
Hi,Sc-Compact.Does the Corbin seat differ much in riding position from the standard Superglide seat.
Thanks,Tnbrit.
