Default Harley LED headlight ?

Anyone have one on their Dyna ? If so is it that much better than stock ? My stock headlight sucks and my evening commute home is about 50 miles. On dark back roads that are polluted with deer it can be fun at times. Looking for something better but damn that thing is a little pricey. I don't want to throw away that kind of $ if it isn't much better. Thanks

I have it and yes the lighting is "MUCH" better than stock. I live out in the sticks at my current duty station and the highway that I travel sometimes at night on the bike has no lighting (Deer, possums, etc) as well. I feel alot more comfortable traveling in low light areas and at night time in general now that the LED light is on the bike. Well worth the money imho! But I bought mine through Zanotti with the discount, so I would suggest to you to not pay retail for it. Go through one of the dealers that still do the online discounts.

a cheaper way to go is to get a bucket outta drag that has a metal backing to it and put a HID bulb in it from http://www.ddmtuning.com they have a high and low beam bulb and its great...or just go with a silver star bulb from walmart they are a good improvement to

go buy the new gen7 from Truck-Lite, it beats the harley light like a drum.
$259.00 too!
LED's are new technology, HID, use too much power these days!

have had a HID on my bikes for a long time and my truck...never a problem and as long as you install them correctly(not get finger oil on the bulb) they last a long time

That's a bold statement to make without posting any real comparison test results....Do you have any?

As to HID's drawing too much power, have you ever ran ballasts or slim ballasts before? The ballasts are setup to run the HID's on a stock motorcycle electrical system and is far from drawing too much power. HID's in a projector headlight setup will out perform any LED headlight on the market to date. I ran hids on my old track/road bike, 2008 ZX6r and nothing on the LED market to date can compare to the lighting output I had on that bike.

I wouldn't suggest to anyone to run HID's in a non projector style housing. A standard housing can't focus the beam and has no cutoff that a projector lense was designed for. The beam pattern on a projector is sharp with a nice cutoff that focuses the lighting. A standard lense sprays the pattern all over the place and can blind on coming traffic.

There were several comparison threads in the touring section, but they were comparing the 7" HD LED to 7" Truck-Lite LED, and the aux lights as well. Several versions of each brand I think. Not sure how that applies to the 5-3/4" on the Dyna.

I have the 7" HD LED, it throws uber light way up the road, but the beam is very focused and there isn't much lit up around the front of the bike. You won't get the sides of the roads and ditches lit up which is where you want to look for critters. I'm considering aux lighting for that reason.

i have the hd led on my 09 lowrider and love it!!!!!!! it has PLENTY of side flood. don't know why 02fx says the 7" doesn't... I had an 04 zx-10 ninja with HID's in it but they were in the stock reflectors. I like the led better but the hid's were great too. the only thing i don't like about it is in a REALLY sharp slow speed curve, the top of the cutoff of the light is pretty much instant so it's hard to see out in front of you with the bike leaning very hard. I've only been on one road where i had problems seeing and it was super sharp, probably 3-10 mph.

Thank you both. Exactly what I was looking for. Actual owners who could compare it to the stock light.
