I purchased a set of vance and hines big shots from a forum member, and ordered a set of the XIEDS from nightrider. i also bought a SE Ventilator air cleaner... Today i installed the Pipes and XIED's, even though the SE AC isn't hear yet ( just couldn't wait ).
As i was taking the old exhaust off, i discovered that the rear O2 Sensor wasn't even plugged in to the ECU. the front one was still plugged. I just bought this bike used from a dealer, i guess thier thourghl check of the bike didn't include that...
How would have this affected the performance of the bike, too lean? too rich? my fuel milage wasn't that good, high 30's, low 40's for a stock Dyna it didn't seam normal.
With the new exhaust and XIED's it runs great, seams like it has more throttle response than before. not sure if it is my imiganation, or actual. i'm wondering what if any difference there would have been if i had hooked up the O2 sensor with the stock pipes.
anyway, now i cant wait for the SE AC to get here on monday so that i can add it see what difference it makes.
thats what i thought... i'm guessing that they didn't check for codes when they took it in trade...
when i took the seat off, the first thing i saw was the plug undone. the O2 sensor end was pulled clear thru to the engine...
I have started my bike without them in and run for a few minutes without throwing a code. I also forgot to plug them in on my kids Nightster for a whole day and again no codes. I cannot see how the performance and mileage didn't suffer, the information the ECM needed was not correct.
the other thing i didn't mention, when i got the stock exhaust off, on the front cylender, the chamber was clean, on the cylender there was a pool hardend black carbon on the floor of the exhaust chamber, could this have anything to do with the o2 sensor being discontected for a siginifact period of time? not concerned about the carbon, just wonder if its because of the 02 sensor.
