I use one on all my trips. They are great. Mine is expandable. On long runs I keep everything in it I might need.
Anything I want quick access to gets put in there. Billfold, registration papers, spare maps, flashlight, cell phone, glasses and sunglasses, snacks, a couple bottles of waters, etc... I fill it up.
I recommend a magnetic bag that also utilizes a strap system. Passing a truck going the other way at highway speeds can move it without the straps.
I also use rubber drawer liner you can buy at Walmart under it. It won't slide around and protects your paint. Mine has gone thousands of miles and not marked my paint.
The way my bag is set up, I can access it and everything in it while I ride.
It is probably the single best piece of equipment I have for long runs.
2005 Superglide. My key isn't on the tank, so that isn't a problem. I set mine all the way back against the seat so it doesn't get in the way when i refuel. I don't recall the make of my tank bag and I've had it for awhile. Next time I am in the garage I will dig it out and look at the label.
I have used a Wolfmann tank bag on my '06 Streetbob. magnetic feet with a strap that goes around the steering stem. Never any problems with moving around on tank or scratching the finish, but then I use the tank tape that the moco sends new bike tanks wrapped in. My dealership gave me a bunch of it. Any thin material to protect the finish will work- the magnets are strong. Good luck. Jay
