I just got done putting on my new trees and I was going over everything and I noticed that my back brake light don't light. I had to splice the switch wires to run them through the trees and bars, I have done this before with no problems. I tested all the lights, headlight high and low, blinkers both left and right and 4 ways, front brake brake light, horn, kill switch and the start switch and everything works just fine. But for some unknown reason when I press the back brake I get no light! Anybody have any ideas what's wrong or do I need to take it to the dealer?
If the brake light worked before you started........you have a short someplace maybe a pinched wire or your splice is wrong. Did you make a diagram of the wires before you cut them? Do you have a schematic or electrical service manual?
I did draw a diagram and all the wires are correct and matched to each color, If I had a short wouldn't at least one of my switches not work, remember it's only the rear brake light, everything else works fine and there's no blown fuses, It starts, runs great too. I would think if I had a short it would blow a fuse and one of my switches wouldn't work... I will double check my wiring again tomorrow but It all looked good to me.
get the test light. double check ground... it is the most important item in DC. you could have a poor splice ie cold solder or it came apart after you heat shrinked. You did heat shrink right? or taped it right?
If I take the 2 wires off the back brake light switch and touch them together.... woooo wooooo the light comes on..... guess that means the switch is bad!
