You really want the shock to be perfectly vertical, not angled from top to bottom or it will affect how well it works. You can use a spacer as long as it keeps the shock straight up and down.

Ditto.. if you received the right parts you should have been good to go. The only problem I had on my fxd was getting the rubber grommets inside the shock ends.
