I've got the number 6 on my speedo that lights up when getting into 6th gear (of course). The thing is, it doesn't come on most of the time until I put it under load in top gear, then it will light up. I've contacted the dealer, and the "technicians" have told me several different things (read BS) like "it depends on your speed"... "it takes a few minutes"... "it will be fixed if we dyno the bike and reflash the system"...etc. I would have thought it had a switch in the tranny like the neutral switch. I am going to dig through the service manual and see what I can find, but I thought I'd post here to see if anyone else had the problem.

Wow! I love that explanation. Most of these guys are so accomplished they could fool a lie detector.
all my bikes do that , takes a second or 2 to come on or if you put a little pressure on the shift lever it will sometime turn it off and on , sounds normal, dont know how it reads when the bike in in 6 but it is a bit slow to pick up and has acted the same on all the 6 speeds I've been around
What you r describing sounds normal, unless you have to wait like ten seconds for it to come on. I usually put the engine under load immediately as I shift and yes, it does take like a second and a half to come on. I have never worried about it. Guys who have changed out their power pully no longer get a 6th gear lite.
Mine has the odd moment but works fine most of the time i dont know why but it always seems to get worse when i am due to oil change but this could just be me being paranoid LOL
