06 and 07 wide glides are recalled for new handlebar, not just the 06's. I hope you are wrong about the grips, I have after market grips, it would just be plain wrong not to replace the grips with what they have to take off, it is not our fault that the handlebars are breaking.

Only for the WG's.... They have internally wired bars.... The SB's have the "Original" WG bars, and are externally wired....

You won't get a notice unless you have a WG....
Thanks Bob. I forgot about the internally wired thing. And here I was actually hoping the bobs fell underneath this recall so I could try and get the dealer to replace the stock ones for some tall apes free of labor charge[:@]. A man can wish can't he?

I know there are quite a few early 06 WG owners here...myself included...I noticed one post that mentioned someone's bars breaking. I know that the number of people with this bike on a message board is tiny compared to the total owners of these models...but still...I'd be interested if anyone else has had a problem, or knows of someone that has had this problem. I've had my bike for over a year and have put over 5K miles on it...no problems yet.

Sounds to me that I should be concerned...but I don't know if I'm gonna be so concerned not to ride the bike.

I, too, asked the dealer, but their response was typical. "we know about it...but that's it...no kits yet" Great..that helps me a lot!

Ah crap! I've installed the fat mini-apes on my Street Bob. I'll confirm part numbers later, but I think they are the same part as the WG stock bars. I wonder if my bars were made in the "defective" batch? I wonder how I could possibly know that since I doubt the bars have a date stamped on them anywhere and you can't just check a VIN.

Anyone here have any idea how the MoCo handles a situation with a recall on a part that is often bought separately?

I think they are different. They better be. The fat minis cost $199 and the stock bars $149 from HD. I think they have differnt measurements at the top. I'll bet the holes for internal wiring are identical though. I'm eager to hear how this works out. I just finished putting 06 stockers on my 01 WG.

I hate this news but am glad that it is coming up during the winter.

Wow...forgot about that dave...doesn't HD have a 90 day warranty on their parts? If you're bars were bought before 90 days, I'd go to the dealer and demand a different set. Unless, of course, they can verify that yours aren't affected. Good luck man.
I am certain mine are affected. I guess I just have to wait and hope they don't break while I'm riding. I haven't been doing too many wheelies, so I have to imagine I'll be ok...hopefully
