I switched from the factory Dunlop 180/60b17 to a Pirelli Night Dragon. Both tires suck at mileage wear and I'm no throttle demon. I got about 5K miles outa the Dunlop and my Night Dragon is approaching 4K miles and it's already needing to be replaced.
The N-Dragon is a softer side-walled, more forgiving, bump absorbing tire with good traction but at 2K miles they developed fissures or cracking between the tread grooves...To describe it best I can, if you had dirt tire knobies, the ***** have splits in them. Also, there is a new layer of under-rubber showing through from underneath on the Pirellis and gouging marks through the outer rubber exposing new under-lying layers of rubber. Also, I mounted a Night Dragon front tire at the same time. I pay strict attention to tire pressures and the front tire is cupping badly. I've never had a front tire not go at least 10K miles or more but this one is shot at less than 4K. I will not by the Night Dragons again.
Too bad there are so few manufacturers offering this size rear tire. Let us know if somebody has a pleasant experience with any other 180/60b17. I'm tempted to even go to a 170 but I hate to give up the width.

Michelin Scorcher "31" 180/60/17. OE tire on the 2012 Wide Glide. Put one on my Street Bob a few weeks ago...I like them and got 11200 out of the OE 160/70/17 Scorcher.
Just put Michelin commander 2 's on my FLSTFB about 2k so far I like them
Commander 2 isn't available in the right size the fit the 4.5" rear rim of the Wide Glide. Options are limited. The only tires that I know of are the OE Dunlop, Perelli Night Dragon, SE 180, and the Scorcher "31" Harley is using as the new OE tire. You can get a Metzler that will fit the rim but it's a 170.
I have the SE 180/60-17 and only gey around 7000 miles on them Think I am going to try thr Metzler 1070/60-17 this time. 18wheels did the Avon Storm 190/50-15 fit on the stock 4 1/2 wide wheel? Do you have a photo of it?
I just put new rubber on. Metzeler 880's rear 200/50ZR-17 front 90/90-21. There are threads on the 200 set up everyone is saying it won't work thats BS I have 1000 miles on them and there great supper sticky
Having issues with my front cupping/ slight cracking at 3400 miles, so far stealer is not warranting. Question; can you run the 90/90-21 Metzler with the stock back tire without issues? (wasnt sure about radial vs bias or anything like that) Thanks for any input...........
I don't know what people are saying about tread wear on the NightDragons. I have about 6K on mine now and both front and rear are looking good. I may get 10K out of the rear and we'll see how the front goes. May get 20K out of it. I'd be happy with 9K and 18K respectively. Pretty sure I won't be getting the 11K I did out of the factory Dunlop rear though.
