Need to swap-out the upper triple clamp on my 08 bob. Swap will be OEM for OEM. I know what's necessary as far as wiring, but it it possible to swap the uppers without lifting the front end, so long as the lower clamp remains tight? Would like to do this today so the bike will be ready for a Saturday AM memorial ride, but my lift is on loan and I can't get it back until the weekend.
I'm pretty sure you can swap the upper without lifting the front end.
Any adjustments like fall away will need to be on the lift, not sure if it would necessary if you just pull the, upper, can't remember if the star adjuster nut has to come off too just remove the upper

No, star nut is under the upper. Just have to pull the stem cap, stem nut and a washer. Service manual isn't much help since it just addresses removal/reinstallation of the entire steering head.
Thanks for the reply. Did it without a lift in about an hour and a half. Most of that time spent disconnecting wires and fishing them through the clamp and frame grommet.
i did this swap with out a lift. you will need to adjust or preload the brearings after install. I did the swap and after have shake on the front end at 55. talked to the indy and they said any time the top clamp comes off you always need to preaload the neck bearings and check fall away again
