I found myyself in the middle of a situation and would value the opinions of people here.
I orginally went to the dealer to by a 2012 FXDWG after doing some homework on what I wanted. When I got there, the dealer offered me a 2011 at a steal of a price so I went ahead and did the deal. When I got home, I realized the 2011 only had a 96 and the 2012 I wanted would have the 103. Bummer.
I went back and the dealer said that he could give me the 2012 for $1,300 more. This is where I need the help.
No matter what bike I have, I will be adding a new exhaust system, AC, fuel management systrem and cams. Soooooo, it is worth it to spend the extra $1,300 for the 2012 -- or save the dough. Will the difference in power be perceivable enough once all the goodies are added?
hmmm, 1300....I probably would switch. I love my 96 and wont switch if a 103 become available 2013, but at the time of purchase, yeah I probably would.
My philosophy, for what it's worth, is you can ride any HD @ highway/speed limits so doesn't matter if it's a 96ci or 103ci motor. Keep the bike you bought & invest the $1300 in planned upgrades = money better $pent...
For $1,300 to go a year newer I would say no, but to get the bigger motor I would say YES YES YES, 100 times over, get the 2012, you will regret it if you don't. If I was looking to buy, and I had two identical bikes other than the year and the 96-103, I'd buy the 103 mostly because I wouldn't even be looking for bikes with a 96. The 103 is the new engine and when the time comes that you are looking to sell this bike, be it in 2 or 10 years from now having that 103 is going to make your bike way more attractive.
$1300 buy alot of other stuff, like a 103" stg 3(or similar 107") which will walk all over that stock 103"..... i would keep the 96" and build motor or just use cash for pipes, tuner, a/c... or other useless chrome or black ****!!
