Keep the 96. You won't notice any real difference. It is marketing to keep you drooling for the latest and greatest. And, it is working, obviously.

Mod your new sled with that dough.

Ride hard!

i would use that 1300 on upgrades on the 2011 model. just think since your going to do the exhaust and ac any way you mine as well just use it on the 2011 model. with an exhaust, ac and tuner you will have plenty of power with the 96". if you want in the future to get a 103, or 107 kit then spend that extra.

1300 will get you a lot of nice upgrades. I would say keep it. 96" is a good motor.

^^^

That is what I was thinking... Not much difference in HP

$1300 computes to $325 per hp assuming 4 hp difference.

I would put that money toward a 107.

Thanks for all the fast replies.

For the sake of this excercise, please assume that my goal will be to keep my bike under warranty -- so there will be no displacement upgrades in the near future (107 or 110, etc). I also am not mechanically inclined, so I would never do the work myself. A shame.

So, the choice would be the 2011 with the 96 (adding exhaust, cams, AC and fuel management) or the 2012 with the 103 (also adding the same configuration) for an additional $1,300 out of pocket. Both would maintain the warranty since I have picked up neither bike yet (dealer has the 2011 in storage with 0 miles on it).

ok honest answer I'd love to have the 103" and probably keeping everything else equal (pipes ac, cams, fuel mangmt) it will be a llittle more powerful. But it is also true that the 96" will also already be very fast with the same components and you can use the cash to buy other useful stuff like bags/chrome etc.
If you are really crazy about performance, keep the 96 and put the 1300 $ towards a 120" at the end of the warranty.

Hey Dude......count the ones that said keep the 2011- 96er and the others and you'll enjoy and get more out of the 2011- 96er with the upgrades you want...Come on 6 cubic inch and 4 hp ain't worth it in MHO.

After riding both the 96 and the 103, I'd have to say there isn't even $13 worth of difference, let alone $1300! Keep the 96, and use the $1300 to pay for all the stuff you want to add. As far as , in 10 years having the 103 instead of the 96 when you want to sell, I'd say in 10 years it won't matter at all.

BUT... Keep in mind that the 2012 with the 103 has ACR valves (automatic compression release) to help save on the starter. I have a 2009 and am already replacing my starter. You also get updated switch controls on the handlebar plus an integrated rpm (digital tach) in the odometer as well as a gear indicator. (At least my wife's 2012 Switchback has all that so I would think all 2012 Dynas would.
