I do a considerable amount of night riding to get to work and such and would like to improve on the lighting of my stock FXDC. Would some of you guys that have done this mod tell me what you think and post pics if you could. I have thought about getting two extra lights and mounting them to my engine guard bar, but the wife doesn't seem to excited about that. If you have done this and have some pics maybe she can be persuaded. Thanks.
Coincidently I just logged on to pose a similar question or sniff around for options. I have a 99 FXDWG, never been real happy with the light. After having a 08 FLHR and my current FLHRSi with HD lights added to the guard, I really want more light from my Wide Glide!
Yesterday I had it in to my local wrench for service and discussed a few options, his suggestion was to just swap out my bulb to a bright white PIAA. I still am going to look at something for the engine guard, the LED's are starting to look good.
Can't help you with additional lighting up front, but you would be wise to also upgrade the rear lighting. I was nailed in the a$$ end on my 4 day old 2010 FXDC by a woman at a traffic light. I upgraded the tail light to the HD LED model, and converted my rear turn signals to RBT LED's. There are several companies that offer conversion kits (RBT module, load equalizer, LED's, and red lenses). I used the kit from Custom Dynamics and could not be happier. Think about it.
That was my first thing to change this past winter. I was never really happy with the lighting. I purchase LED Pancea tailight (blinks 3X when stopping), LED Turning signals Smoked lenses (both front and back), 7" LED Headlight all from Kuryakyn. I replaced the bucket with a 7" bucket used for (I believe) Fatboy and Heritage models from Drag Specialties. Now both the front and rear signals act as running lights. The tailight also acts as a turning signal.
Major improvement in lighting and I get constant compliments on how bright my lights are from other riders.
I can post pics for you this weekend, if you like.
i had the same issue. i mounted small driving lights under my tripple tree for a while, then after i went to HID, there was no point it is unreal how bright it is... here is both set ups for you to see
Wow... those HD LED Headlights and Driving lights are definitely worth saving up the $$$'s for. On the earlier thread images depicting the light patterns are definitely impressive.
I am one who worries most about the dim wits and their inattentive driving habits behind me.....So I invested in the Bright *** LED Taillight. Whenever someone gets to close to me from behind...I flash the BAL-2 Bright *** STOP light and they either stay back or take a chance on getting paint burned off their car from my Tail / STOP Light!!!!!
I have a KC rectangle long range light mounted on the bottom of the triple tree . its wired to a relay tripped by the high beam switch . its a little odd I guess but works good. hope to have LED in a year or so
