I'd be really interested what the actual wiring changes were.
Looking at Figure B11 (or B10) in the Service Manual...
Did you disconnect the R/BK from the Lights fuse ("O" on 64B) that goes to the common R/BK on the ignition switch (and seal off this wire) and instead run a jumper from that fuse to "T" on the connector to the start relay (62B) and so 87a?
I suppose the only slight downside to this would be that if you stalled the bike at night then the lights would go out when you pressed the starter.
IMO you hit the nail on the head, Foxster.
Here's a 2004 Main Harness Wiring Diagram in which I added this modification.
a. Cut R/BK connection at incoming side of lights fuse (comes from ignition switch in position "ignition").
b. Connect incoming side at lights fuse to start relay pin t (87a).
my 2006 FXDWG all shuts off when I hit the start button...
must be prior to 06??
That's weird...According to the 2006 wiring diagram lights & starter relay feed pins are all connected to R/Bk wire that runs from Ignition pin at Ignition switch.

Perhaps your bike has been modified?
His must be modded...The light on my '06 WG stays on (although dimms really bad) when I start it...But not for long...
OP-Thanks for the tip!
