Default spark plugs

just about to start the service on my 2011 FXDWG.
the manual says to use harley thread lock on the plugs????
do you really need to do this???
im used to riding/servicing old triumphs and kawasaki zeds, and have never needed to do this on any of them. is it just a moco ruse to sell more workshop stuff???

NO!! Do Not Use thread lock.... use anti-sieze compound.

Thread lock will put you in a world of hurt the next tme you go to remove your plugs... Serious Damage!!

Hope this helps.

Best wishes....Tim(HT)

never heard of using thread lock on plugs. I use a very, very light coat of the copper never seize on mine. It gives me a better feel when tightening the plugs. Always tighten them very carefully, there easy to strip. I only remove them after the bike has cooled

Read it again...I'm sure it doesn't say 'thread lock.'

although the plugs likley wont need replacing, it is still VERY important to pull them once in awhile (IMO once a season). I waited 2 seasons to pull my wife's sportster plugs and one already began to "weld" itself to the aluminum head. Also cant say enough about using antiseize!

On older hd bikes I have seen both loose and almost welded plugs. For the cheap $ I replace every year with the HD plugs and +1 on the anti-sieze.
