I have about 4000 miles on my Michelin commander II (front and rear) on my 10 FLHTK and while I haven't measured them they still look good. Very good in the rain or dry and no complaints. My son also rides that bike and he is very aggressive and routinely leans it until the floor boards scrape.
I've gotten about 11k out of my rear Commander 2 and it's time to replace it. 1 full year, October to October, daily commute 60+ miles and riding 2 up every weekend about 300 miles.
Honestly, I wouldn't buy it again. Crappy wet-weather handling and I really didn't see any more longevity than my last Dunflop.
The front though, that's holding up well and it hasn't let loose on me like the rear has....yet.
Thanks for the advice on the Night Dragons. That might be the way to go.
Sorry you thought I was being dramatic. I didn't think I could offend someone with a comment about tires.
No worries..., nothing offends me
Just need to be cognizant of the audience - everything from bikers..., enthusiasts..., motorcyclist..., weekend warriors..., trailer queens - and a whole lot of wannabes thrown in for good measure
Someone says dangerous..., potentially it gets blown way out of proportion
Motorcycle tires, regardless of brand, have never been as good as they are, right now.
For those of us who have been riding since the 1960's know that is true. That stuff back then was crap! Don't dare lean into a turn and rain? Forget about it.
I put a night dragon on the frontof my 06 superglide and hated it so much i could not wait for that tire to be off . It does have a very round profile which people seem to like for turning in , which is all good if you live on a canyon road. Unfortunately 90% of my miles are blasting around san antonio, back when i tried the night dragons i was riding back and forth for austin to SA a bunch. Anything over 85 on that night dragon was horrifying, its just too "peaky", not enough rubber on the ground for someone that hits triple digits every other time they start the bike.
Im sure it would have flattened out after a few thousand miles but who wants to wear in a tire.
currently on my 14 lowrider i have commander 2 and think they are all around good tires for how i ride. They feel good on the interstate, feel good over rain grooves and tar snakes and feel very stable at high speeds. Down side is that they are not sticky , so you can break them loose in a straight line. I have found that these tires are slick when cold but if you warm them up they feel like a differnet tire all together.
There is no magic tire, you just have to pick one that is best for how you ride. I trust the michelins for riding highway speeds with my wife on the back and my brother next to me. I enjoy some twists and turns more than most but im not draggin pegs or anything, nor am i riding like a stunt rider
