I installed a 2 3/4" HD mini tach. Tried a 2" first, it was a little too small for me but I wear rx riding glasses. Didn't want to spend the money on the new one so I picked up a nice used one on ebay with a billet mount. I think it was about $100 total.
Here is a pic of the one I have. I measured it and the tach itself is 2 1/2" but 3" with housing. Here is the link to it and there is an adapter included I had to use when connecting to the coil.
