Does anyone know if there is a spray on protection compound that is needs to be applied to a new chaincase gasket when replacing it?
If so, is there an alternative that can be used? I find it hard to believe that a gasket that's sole function is to keep the fluids in the bike needs an additional product .... oh never mind it's the moco after all, I guess I would not find it that hard to believe....
This past Sunday, I changed all the fluids in a friends 2004 SuperGlide and checked the shoes on the chain tensioner (replacement kit...looked great). After about 20 miles she has noticed a thin film of clean oil on the bottom of the chain case, which I'd like to attribute to me not wiping the thing off properly once buttoned up... will continue to monitor that.
All bolts were torqued down to spec in the proper sequence.
Also, I did the exact same thing to by 11 FXDC last year and 5K miles later, all I get of the underside of the chain case is road grime. No one tried to sell me this mysterious product at the time I purchased the gasket for mine or hers.
Another friend of hers told her that the HD 20W50 synthetic (you've all seen it in the dealerships) used will eat up the gasket and leaks will occur.
On a side note let me hijack my own post; Is there another brand, perhaps less expensive that can go into all holes the TC 96's? I need a full change of fluids myself and if there is an alternative to the 52 bucks a gallon moco stuff, I will try it.
I am getting ready to do the 1K mile service on mine here in the next couple of weeks, based on posts, and a little bit of research, I think I will be going with Amsoil, I believe that have a kit for all three holes that includes an oil filter funnel, plus some goodies like stickers and a hat. And from what I have seen it is reasonably priced.
Have pulled many primarys and never used anything other than a new gasket. Just did it last weekend to put forwards on my BFKASB and all is nice and dry.
Correction to my earlier post......It is Redline who has the kit....its the Red Line Big Twin 20W50 Powerpack 90226" got it on Amazon for $88.46. Also ordered the K&N KN-171C Harley Davidson/Buell High Performance Oil Filter for $11.99 (this is the one with the attached nut on the filter for easier installation and removal)

My friends FXD is not leaking now, will look into it after she rides it a few more times. must have been a little that did not get wiped off the chain case and cover... will continue to monitor.
As for mine somehow I have a gallon of the moco stuff in my garage.. I can't honestly remember how I have an extra gallon of that expensive *&%^. I will put it in this time and next interval I will probably try the Amsoil.
