I am trying to add to my 05 Dyna a 12v digital led gauge and a separate led light and am having trying to figure out where to tap
into the power without getting the main wiring harness hot.

Any help would be appreciated.
bbqbrisket what type of gauge is it ? Or rather more importantly I think you are talking about how to power the illumination of the gauge ?
If so you can just tap into the o/w (orange with white stripe) wire. It's switched at the ignition switch to be on whenever the ignition OR accy is on.
Of course depending on what the gauge is to report on would determine where to hook any other leads. Did it come with a schematic ?
(Update most bikes the o/w is as spoke of above including my 07 Dyna. However you should check your manual schematics to make sure of the color. The wire I speak of is the ACCY circuit fed off the ignition switch and is 15 amp fused thru the ACCY fuse.)

That's right, the illumination. It's 3 wires. One to ground, one to constant power (battery) for the digital (it's a clock) and the last one switched for illuminating.
I will check for the orange and white. I hope it's easy to see under the seat.

There should be an o/w on the larger connector (under the seat) going to the rear lighting (thru the fender).
If you are hooking it up under the seat you could also tap into the wires going into Customer Accy plug. It's a 4 wire dephi plug (on mine). It will be empty unless you've already added something that plugs in it. That plug has 2 Orange with red striped wires (on mine), 1 black (grd) wire and 1 r/y wire. Either of the o/r are switched power from the ignition switch. The r/y wire is a switch leg to the rear lighting, don't use it.
However if the clock is going up on the bars or console, there are o/w and black wires under the console plate on the tank also.
Additionally (on mine) there is a brown with gray stripe wire that fused straight from the Battery all the time, you could use for the clock power. This same bn/gy wire feeds out of the fuse box under the seat and also goes to the console so it's available which ever place you decide to use.
