I am glad to hear this was resolved by the dealer doing the right thing.
I'm very disappointed in the MoCo's handling of your concerns however.
Enjoy your ride and ride safe!
I have not been looking for a straight-up leak but at stops and after parking it i have a very strong gas odor. Dealership (at 600miles) said its unburnt fuel coming from the pipe/compression release but I'm not so sure.
Taking it in for the 1k svc on 1 July. will see what they say then.
I'd like to see a list of what other items that the MoCo feels are a representation of the product... I've been lucky with my FLHX, but my daughters new Slim had one of the front axle clamps fall off, after the bolts backed out and the clutch handle do almost the same trick.. Parts falling off a new bike one of those "representations"... is there a list?
My Street Bob vent hose runs forward to the neck and down. It's got a small plastic check valve on it. The hose is probably 1/4 or even 3/8" ID.
If your hose is a small diameter as you described, I'm guessing that's the problem. It sounds like the small diameter tubing is not letting the vented air out fast enough and a siphon effect is pushing fuel through the tube.
I think I would change the tubing for a larger diameter.
BTW. I get a gas smell in my garage sometimes, but no drip.
By they way. You should email your story to The Consumerist at tips@consumerist.com
Make sure to put in the part about Harley-Davidson's Proper Representation of the product" statement. The Consumerist publishes this stuff and they get a lot of results.
I have a 2011 S/B I have only seen mine leak once(and I wouldnt have know there was a vent line if it dindt leak) I rode about 250 miles and filled it up at the end of a ride, I must have toped it off too much. Got home parked it in the garage and it leaked (small drip) for about 25 mins than stopped. Never has leaked again, I would say yours isnt normal for a new bike or any Dyna for that matter.
listen guys gas is not suposed to leak unless pressure in tank is too much check the cap your fuel gage is on should pop off if pressure high before it leaks from vent line.
