I brought my Switchback in for its 1000 mile service and there was another SB there too. Come to find out both our windshields have fallen off on their own. The dealer has kept them for they fear it is a hazard. They are going to be calling Harley tomorrow to report and find a cure for this serious issue. Mine just fell off while at idle and the other guy's fell off in the parking lot and was blown off by the wind. Not good!

I'm VERY interested in the outcome on this. I haven't had any problems at all, BUT....
On a similar note, I'm disappointed that the HD windshield locking system doesn't work on the FLD. I'm thinking of ordering one at my stealer and then, if they fail to confirm that it doesn't fit, try it anyway and MAKE them take it back if it doesn't (they usually don't take back special orders, and I doubt they have this in stock.) The Harley web page on this STILL doesn't say this doesn't work on the FLD but I have heard here that it does not.
I just got off the phone with the dealer and the Harley rep is coming in tomorrow to talk about / inspect our windshields. I am told that they are going to get me a replacement since our shields got damaged. I'll update tomorrow once I know what comes of it. Wish me luck!
You're kidding right? This system has been this way for YEARS and works just fine, you don't see a bunch of windshields on the side of the road do you? You know why? Because it's a great design and keeps people from complaining about how hard it is to get the thing on and off... embrace you newbies! I know I know, it's a hard concept, but that windshield aint goin nowhere...
I took my bike in for the 1600km. service and told the service rep. about my concerns re: the windshield. She said it was supposed to be like that. Soooo -- I took her out to the showroom where two new Switchbacks were and I grabbed the top of each of their shields and really yanked on them. They stayed in place. Then I took her to my bike and with two fingers just lifted the shield off. She then had her mechanic take the bike into the shop and when he returned it it was all I could do to get the thing off!! Apparently he had just tightened up the four bolts holding the shield on and compressed the rubber grommets. When I got home I backed them off a bit and now feel that the shield is a better fit. As for the wire thingies I still dont see that they serve much purpose as they simply cam over with pressure and do not apply any actual locking effect.

Wow, and all the fanboys told you that you were an idiot and a wuss, you weren't man enough for a harley, etc, etc.
Those wires are just for your fingers to pull on when taking the windshield off, they don't serve any other purpose.
Mine has just a little friction going on and coming off and I've never had any issues with it whether it's a windy day or not, whether it's sitting or going down the road, never moves or feels like it's going to fall off.
Well again, I'm sure it's the big "Vibration" issue, the tech probably just got a torx bit and ratchet and tightened it down so you would go back to looking like a wuss! LOL
