Default DIY 1k service ?

I am seriously considering doing my own 1k service. After being ignored by my dealer about the soda spilled on my new SGC by someone before I took delivery and the fact the bike had 3 miles on it when i signed the papers and 14 when i took delivery, I hate to have them touch my bike.
I have looked at the required 1k service stuff and other then spoke torque I don't see anything special.
I have already had the scare tactic of warranty claim issues if I don't have the dealer do service and I know about that BS scam.
What did folks here do when the 1k came due ?

Buy the service manual and do it your self. You will save THOUSANDS of dollars over the life of your bike just in scheduled maintenance.

Like in my other post... I let the dealer do the 1K.... worst fvcking experience ever. Had them install stage 1 A/C and download at that time as well. Wound up paying 485 bucks... for a total of maybe 1.5hrs work at best.

For one, it's not worth the money... Two... it's not worth the money, and Three.. the Stage 1 system is ****... that is my experience.

Buy a manual, and do it yourself... no biggee. Just keep track of the servicing you do, they will have no right to claim warranty issue... it's just a BS scare tactic.

I did my own install on the pipes and stage 1 AC. Bike runs better now that I got that huge 2 1/2 foot plug off of there. Took it for a spin and performed great. I did not perform the download and will not do so. That again is a scare tactic from the MoCo that the bike will not perform correctly if this is not done. Got the manual, lift and tools

Yup. The money you'll save on the 1 and 5 k services alone will pay for most of the tools you'll need, service and parts manuals, and even a harbor freight lift table if you have the room. If not, get a good bike jack (they're on CL for cheap all the time around here) and keep your eyes open of a used Kendon stand up lift. Takes less room than a lawn mower when standing and makes life a TON easier working on the bike compared to crawling around on the concrete floor. Air over hydraulic so you don't need a compressor to raise it - I almost never both plugging in the compressor since it's so easy to hand pump.

Did mine and never looked back. Plus you don't have to worry about what they might not have done right.

So having the dealer do the 1K service ISN'T required?

NO. They can not require you to have them do the service. I used Harley products and saved all of my receipts so they could not claim the use of other oil, seals, etc. caused a warranty failure. Get a manual. It will be the best 60 bucks you ever spend on your bike.

Get the manual and do everything you can possibly do yourself.
The experience is yours to keep.
You can do it all. I bought the spoke torque kit.
Buy everything you need.
The money you save can be put toward upgrades and do that yourself too.
I have one of the best serviced bikes around with top notch service.
Mine.

Can a Chevy dealer require you have all the services done at the dealer? No. I do all my own oil changes on my SUV and pickup. I take it to Firestone for tires and some tuneup work but most of it I do. Years ago I had a Mustang that was running like crap, took it by a local shop and it turned out to be the TPS. Guy showed me how to not only change it but how to set it as well. Just my .02
