Dropped It!!
Similar experience here in Dec. My insurance replaced everything with OEM parts - at least that was the estimate they paid. What happened was it went to dealer. Dealer went over bike, marking everything damaged and made a list with estimate on cost. Insurance adjuster came by and blessed it. Then sent them a check in both names.
Couple of things. The dealer was very generous on the damage. They marked anything chipped, scratched or worn on that side. Even if it was there before. For example my tank had a chip, but not from this event. Well it was replaced. I didn't request this, the dealer just did it...
As far as the parts from that point on - I decided what to replace them with, but they were replaced (couldn't pocket the cash). The replaced parts went into a box. In time the dealer said I could have them, but after the insurance was happy the bike was fixed. The insurance didn't care about the removed parts - they didn't want them.
Several parts I changed depending on what it was. My left bag was damaged and I bought a different brand (neither was aftermarket leather bags)

Well have been riding since 89 and over 150,000 miles and I dropped it for the first time on the street. I say street because I use to race WERA road racing and that don't count in my opinion thats racing. I was leaving work down the same road and the same way that I leave every day for the past 9 years. But today i guess the decided to put a coat of fresh black top sealer on. The ***** slick to say the least, i was coming up to the stop at the end of my service drive hit the brakes front wheel slide bars jerked hard to the right and down she went.
I was going about 20mph I slide about the length of the bike. I picked it up reset the tip over sensor fired it and road it home. I got away with ripped pants a bruised ankle and a cherry on my knee. The bike not so lucky, bent bars, mirror, signals, tanks 2 dents and a scrape exhaust and rear fender scratched from my boot hitting it, and brake lever and forward controls pushed back. O and a red face from the stupid thing that just happened. It is amazing the bike is not very heavy when your adrenalin is pumping any other time would have struggled to pic it back up but not this time i picked it right up off the ground like it was a bicycle. lol
Well i have a few questions about Progressive ins. trying to decide if I should make a claim or not. Do progressive repair or replace fuel tanks, do the put OEM parts back on or aftermarket parts like they do on cars? What kind of impact does it have on your premium, I have there gold member status right now (not sure what thats all about?)
Keep it Rubber Side Down (not like me)

Regarding the WERA thing, I started roadracing with them back in the old ERA days up and down the east coast and even did Tech inspection for them back in the day during off racing years. I raced TA125's some endurance races on several models and had a blast back then. Did one season of Flagging during a season Old Al took off and for my efforts at Savanah some bozo in a Turbo Kawi decided to try to past someone right at the start finish during practice while I was flagging the end of practice. Well he wasn't paying attention then looked up and swung behind be hitting my foot and breaking my heal and tearing a 2" gash in it. A few inches over and I would not be here! A few inches the other direction an he wouldn't because he would have run into the stand at over 130 MPH!

I talk to the insurance, but they may actually total it for that amount of damage (sounds stupid, I know). Newer dyna tanks seem pretty easy to come by on ebay, it's the older ones that are a bitch.
Sorry to hear about your accident and it can happen to anybody and it happens fast. I was on my way into work on my '01 FXD one dark, foggy and moist morning and when I went to turn off on the street where I work, I suddenly found my rear tire about even with me. I counter steered and the rear end came back around the other way. I counter steered again and managed to straighten it out by controlling it with the front brake. As I saw the curb on the opposite side of the street coming at me I thought "man is this it? Is this the day I finally go down on a bike?" I stopped just in time before I hit the curb. Turns out I had either hit some of the black asphalt patching or might've been the white line on the edge of the turn. After I got my wits back, I had to wait for a car that had come up behind me and it felt like forever to turn my bike around to go the way I intended in the first place. I don't ride in the fog any more!!!
Hope you can get your bike fixed with no problems so you can enjoy the rest of the summer.

My only street crash worthy of mention was on a 1978 Vespa P200 when I high sided going about 60 taking a turn too hot in the rain and locking up the rear brake. It sucks when your only crash story is on an Italian moped (scooter). Lol... Glad you're okay.
Yea I am feeling a Little sore today but not bad. Sent a list of parts to Harley for estimate they came back with 3950 just In parts. So I guess I will wait and see what the adjuster says now. I rode it to work today it felt ok, Maby just a little tweak in the bars, but it road nice and straight, exhaust sounds rough. Think it mite be leaking and the shields are rattling. Well just wait now and see how it plays out. Thanks everybody
My 05 FXD was basically totaled after hitting a deer (in 06, the bike and policy were less than a year old). Progressive fixed it all, new frame, new tank, fenders, bars, controls (including master cylinders), and well, really everything on the exhaust side. I thought, being an insurance company, they might try to skin me, but it didn't affect my premium at all. I still have progressive insurance. (and I swear, the mechanic that put it back together did a better job than the factory. this dyna is smoooth)
