I bought a '88 Honda Civic Hatchback for 8k with about 8,000 miles on it in 1990. I sold it with 65,000 miles for $6,500 3 years later. It was a 5 speed and it got great mileage and was quick. Only trouble was I was living in L.A. at the time and the first time I rode it home from work was through Downtown on the 110 Fwy and there was a wreck so traffic was (more) horrible. I'd go about 3 ft and have to stop and put it in neutral. By the time I got home my left leg was about to fall off. Not the place to have a stick....sorry....I ramble....what was the thread about?
I guess it depends on your purchase, if you bought brand new, of course your going to take a hit, it seems the best value for buying/riding/selling is in the used market, buy used and save thousands, ride a few thousand miles or so, put some personal touches on it, and sell it for little less than you originally paid....that has been what I have seen with my family and friends bikes.
My dealer doesn't think so!
Last year (in Nov, the beginning of the off season) they had an 09 FXDF with 6000 miles and the usual bolt-on stuff, VH Big Radius 2:2 and a detachable sissy bar, lots of chrome. I rode it and fell in love (first time on a bob). Wanted to talk "best deal" and he came down $500 off asking price of........ $14,995!!!!
They had it all winter, and sold it when it warmed up last month for $14500.
It's all where, when, and timing
IMHO Harleys STOP dropping where others continue to fall. They lose at first and then level out
How many HDs do you see for 3-4K, compared to Japanese bikes?
I bought a FXDC IN late 2007. In 2008 they lowered the suggested retail price by $2,000! To my surprise, the dealer didn't mention to me that the price was being lowered . . . Who'd of thought?! Took a hit not only driving it away from the dealer, but also from H.D. Doesn't matter because I love the bike and really enjoy riding it.
Many people think their. Bikes are worth more than they are. I don't know what I could sell mine for, but it doesn't matter. It's just what I want and I'm not selling anyway.
