I broke the 3000 mile mark on my ride home, so I'm definitely happy with my purchase given the low miles, relatively low price (IMO), and great condition of the bike.

I'll upload some pics within the next few days or so.

Thanks for everyone's help on this thread. I'm very appreciative of the massive amount of feedback I've received in such a short period of time... definitely helped me decide that I was ready to go out and buy.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm looking at a 2008 Fat Bob FXDF and the guy wants $8,000 for it. The price sounded great until I gave more thought to the mileage, the bike has over 31,000 miles on it! I'm wondering how much longer before the engine needs major work?

My best advice, having just gone through the process of buying a used bike, is not to rush into anything. For me, the process was to decide...

1) Which years of FXDB I'd consider buying 2) Which color I wanted and 3) How many miles I wanted on the bike... 4) If you want mods/ extras, that would be something worth considering as well... I wanted a bike without mods.

After I decided that, it took me about a month of looking on craigslist and ebay to get some sort of idea of what a good price might be for what I was looking for. It took me another two months to find exactly what I wanted at a price I was willing to pay.

Then, once I found the bike I was really interested in, I hopped on here and started this thread inquiring about the seller's initial asking price, which the general consensus was to try and get the guy to come down from $10.5K. I talked to that guy for two weeks and came out to see the bike two times. The first time, he was dead set on $10.5K. My second visit, I showed up with a cashier's check for $9.5K and he was very hesitant, but ended up doing the deal after he found out that I used to live one town over from him in Montana.

For the mileage and condition of the bike, this was by far the best deal I had seen in the local area and as good as any reasonable listing I had seen on ebay for similar FXDB's across the country for the past few months, especially considering that some of the better deals on ebay would have required me to a) purchase the bike without physically seeing it first and b) pay to have it shipped to me from across the country.

I'm sure everyone's experience is different. Hopefully you can pick up something from mine that will help you with yours. Good luck!
