07_Bobber I see you have a D&D fatcat. How do you like it? Got any pics of the V-rod fairing? West coast T-Bar looks sick as well! I was thinking of sticking with two tone, black and silver, whats the cost to have things powder coated black?
Welcome to the forum. An air cleaner and exhaust would be a good start. You may have to rejet the carb but you won't need a new one (not yet, anyway!). There's a ton of info here about which intakes people like, as well as exhausts. You can go from a good pair of slipons from under $200 to a complete new system. Depends on what you like as far as sound, looks, budget goes.
I want it to sound loud and mean!!! I like the look of your front forks and fender, what are they?? Nice bike!!

I love the D&D fatcat the performance is outstanding. once i get some motorwork done next year the perf. should be even better with a dyno tune..
powdercoating prices vary at different shops, joe knapp the powder pro here does great work if your looking for top quality work.
LSR-II is another excellent exhaust designed for power, but $$$.
I would rebuild the front forks. Don't forget the other components. Everyone concentrates on engine power. That isn't the real advantage of a FXDX. Its handling is key. Make sure it is in full working order. A 10 year old bike should have the front forks rebuilt with heavy fork oil. Then make sure the rear shocks are in good shape. Either rebuild or replace with Works/Ohlins. Personally I noticed a great improvement upgrading to Work black trackkers over OEM.
Get some better tires when you wear the current set out. I run Metzler Marathon 880, but there are other choices
Also check the cam chain tensionors. If stock replace very soon. When they go it destroys engine parts...
Finally research old iron magizine articles from 2000-2003 on the TC88 and tricks for the FXDX. The guy I bought my bike from gave me a stack of clipped articles about various TC88 information and FXDX tricks/adjustments. It was an excellent read on how to optimize a TC88 and what issues are in the early models. Sometimes this info is lost since the newer bikes are different. TC96's have various improvements over the TC88 (and their own issues). Course this info lives on forums like ours
BTW - I do have many take-off parts from my FXDX since I am putting in a SE 120R engine. 44mm Screamin Eagle large bore racing carb with K and N intake car, heavy breather air filter, black Vance and Hines 2->1 classic exhaust as shown in my signature pix

Sorry guys my '03 is the most desired FXDX.
A set of race mufflers, air cleaner, re-jet the carb and hotter ignition is a good start for the engine. If the shocks and fork are good leave 'em and go for a good set of tires.
Welcome to the forum. The FXDX is the best Harley behind the T, and '02 is the best year. The T gives you one of the best fairings and bags stock. I say go with a 2-1 exhaust, a SE or Ness big sucker air cleaner and rejet the carb. Will give you plenty of fun for a while. Enjoy and post some pics when you can.
