Default Dummy gas cap removal

Does anyone know how to remove the dummy has cap without removing the wire from the tank?

I'm putting in RSD gas caps and this is holding me up. I've seen people say they just removed the circuit, but I can't figure out how to do it.

Is it the RSD LED dummy cap? I Installed the LED cap a few weeks ago. I can offer some help in that area if your want. Not really sure how to just ditch the circuit. I have read about guys slipping the old circuit under the new cap but no idea on how they went about it.

I don't have the LED. I just want to know how those guys retained all the circuitry.

Thanks. I've got the manual, maybe I'll have to go that route. Hopefully not.

I got it figured out and figured I would post the solution in case anyone needs it in the future.

Step 1: Pull dummy cap straight out to expose in fuel gauge housing.

Step 2: Wires connect the fuel gauge down a tube to the bottom of a tank. We need to remove the circuit and gauge from inside the white housing.

Step 2a: If able, destroy the white housing and remove the circuit in place. Place circuit and exposed fuel gauge in the hole and put on your new dummy cap. Done.

Step 2b: (If you cannot destroy the white housing in place). Cut the three wires near the base of the housing assembly. Set aside the old cap.

Step 3: Pull the fuel gauge wiring from the bottom of tank.

Step 4: Follow that line and disconnect the wires at the quick disconnect (obvious).

Step 5: Destroy the old gas cap. Take care not to damage the internal circuit or fuel gauge. I used a vice, screwdriver and chisel. Remove circuit and fuel gauge.

Step 6: Strip wires to splice, a total of 6 strips.

Step 7: Insert long wire back into the tank, don't reconnect yet to the bike.

Step 8: Splice wires back together and secure with electrical tape.

Step 9: Sit the gauge in the hole and reconnect the wire to the bike. You'll have to go around the forward fuel tank line as the old routing won't work anymore.

Step 10: Insert new dummy cap over gauge and you're done.

A special thanks to thegrants82 and phat413 for the help.

When I swap my Gage's out I simply just went under the tank, disconnected the QD and depinned it, pulled the wires with the pins out the top with the gage. I didn't have to cut or splice anything. Some people seem to make more work of things then they need to. I not trying to b a hard *** or mean, I am just saying that if you had taken the time to trace the wiresto under the tank you could have made your work a lot easier.

As far as the dummy cap switch, I haven't seen this and it would be nice if you posted some pics of what you did. Another thing, heat shrink is waaaayyyy better then electrical tape when you have wire that are exposed to the elements.
