I can't get my gas cap off. It spins and clicks like a child-proof medicine bottle but it won't grab and hold to engage to unscrew. I feel like idiot... Anyone have any ideas?

 

Sounds like the cogs/teeth inside are stripped.I think they are all plastic.

If it was mine,I guess I would try carefully breaking the top part of the cap off to get access to the threaded part inside.Sounds crude but maybe a hammer and chisel.Find something to unscrew it.

 

Yea, that may be the only way. Just don't want to damage the tank. Thanks for the feedback.

 

Screw in some sheet metal screws on an angle in it, unscrew it buy a new one

 

Sounds like that would work.Clamp the two pieces together.
