Default Oil capacity

My manual says the WG takes 3 qts with filter, but the first time I changed the oil, I drained it very well (over night) and put three qts in it. The dip stick was over full (after starting the engine). The manual also says cold check shouldn't exceed the middle of the range on the stick. I don't want to over fill it, but I sure don't want to run it low either. Anybody run into this?

2.5 - 2.75 quarts... it will only take 3 if its completely dry, as in after a rebuild...

Mine looked good on the cold check at 2 quarts, but was a little low on the hot check, so I added another splash or so, not quite another 1/2 quart, and its right on the money now for the hot check.

I put 2 quarts in and it reads good for the cold check. The strange thing is, it reads the same for the hot check. But if I put more in, it spits it out into the air filter. It's a very fine line on my bike.

It sounds like you did put too much in. Get a turkey baster and suck some out from the oil fill.

My 96" A, motor takes 2.5 qts. after a oil change on hot. By the way, the dealer had my oil way over full when I bought it ?????????

Put 2 qrts in. Take it for a ride and get to operating temp. Shut it down and wait 5 minutes. Add oil to the mark 2 lines below full. It will be OK. Unless you have abig oil leak and dump a bunch. Then you will burn your enine up and have to spend the summer walking.

I agree. If you put a full 3 qts. in at a standard (wet) oil change, you should suck some of it back out before running.

2.7 quart with filter change, dead on every single time.
