Default Michelin Scorchers or Commnander II?

My back tire is about ready to be changed. I have the Dunlop on front and back. I got about 5500 miles on the rear tire. About avg I think.
I want to change both tires. I have been reading good things about both Michelin tires. I think I read that the 160 x 17 Scorcher is about an inch narrower than the Dunlop. Don't know if thats true or not. I'd like some input from those that are running either. Scorcher or Commander II?

I have heard the dunlops run wider. I have 8000 miles on my rear scorcher and its toast, probably should have been changer 1K ago. Im leaning towards the metzler me880 because I hear they last longer

Can't comment on the difference in width between the Michelin & Dunlop, but I just changed my OE Michelin Scorchers to the Michelin Commander II. I had a few more miles left in the OE tires, but I have an upcoming 1k+ mile trip in 2 weeks and didn't want to take a chance. Mileage on the OE tires was good (9600), and overall I was happy with them. The Commanders do ride smoother, and don't have that annoying buzzing when you are in a turn like the Scorchers did. The Commanders don't seem to be affected by seams/grooves in the road like the Scorchers. Handling (dry) seems to be about the same, but I won't really know until I get into the mountains in a couple of weeks. I upgraded the frt & rear pads to EBC when the tires were changed out, so the improvement in braking is probably a combination of the better pads & new tires. If the Commanders can last as long (or better) as the Scorchers, I'll be happy.

Replaced the front & rear Dunlops with Michelin Commander 2's yesterday. First thing I noticed was that the Dunlop rear was wider than the Commander both 160x70x17. I only put 100 miles on yesterday but I am real happy with them. The front tire no longer chases every road snake or road imperfection. They do have a sport bike type tread pattern. The tires seem to roll into and out of a turn faster and with less effort.
Time will tell about Michelins claim of double the life expectancy of the tires.

I went with the Commander II recently and I like it so far. I had a chance to do a test in the rain this morning and it was fine. It does appear narrower that the factory Dunlop but that does not bother me, especially if I get the mileage it promises.

I agree about the tire width. I'm real happy with these tires. The Dunlop front tire was unnerving some times. I have a few more places to check.

2 tyres i wont put near my streetbob AVON & DUNLOP

the only tyres ill use are METZLER & MICHELIN

if i could id use the ME880 all the time but they dont last pissing time on the 1600 bob as i only get 4000 km = 2485 miles which is **** as its a great tyre in both wet & dry conditions, the COMMANDER 2 has faired better in tyre wear,i got 9777 km = 6000 miles, its great in the dry but **** in the wet,i have just purchased a set of SCORCHERS and i hope they give me better tyre wear and work in both wet and dry conditions than the COMMANDER 2,has anyone put a set of METZLER ME888 on there dyna and what milage have yo gottin out of a rear tyre

I just got 12,000 miles on a rear ME880 and am currently at 17,000 on the front. The front will be changed pretty soon though, I have the new one sitting in the garage. Good traction too, Although I would like to try out some Avons and the Michelins if I get a chance.

I barely got 9000kms out of a rear ME880... Front looked untouched tho!

Just switched to a pair of Commander II's and so far I like them, I've only got 250kms on them but they ride really smooth. They do look smaller and less beefy but the bike rolls in and out of turns way easier, it feels much lighter overall

Has anyone mounted a 200 series rear? I m wondering how wide it is compared to a 180 stocker.
