Hmm...If it works and covers the hole that would be cool. Anyone know if the hole edges are roughed up or prone to rust? I would have no problem covering the hole with a medallion like the above, just don't want to have something go wrong with my fender after riding around fior a couple years with the hole covered.

If you don't want to cut the extra wire after the tail light is removed, you may want to deal with those wire first, since the tail light also hide the connectors for the turn signals inside.
The wire hole is stamped and painted, so rust shouldn't be an issue if it's covered properly from under the fender. You can take off the light with T27 torx bit and take a look at the wire harness in the light.
So essentially, the tail light housing is hiding a bunch of extra wiring that I would need to store or alter before just throwing a tank emblem or something similar over the tail light hole? I will crawl under the bike when I get home from work and check out the light and maybe check out where I could move the wires to. Thanks!
I just unplugged mine and took it off. I just taped up the plug from the harness and stored it under my seat. I figure if I ever needed back for whatever reason, it's still there. My rear turn sigs are now just used for brake lights.
