Should I pull the trigger on this '96 Low Rider?

One of my coworkers is an on-the-side Harley mechanic. I was going to bring the bike over there tomorrow and he was going to teach me how to do all three fluid changes, adjust the primary, bleed the brakes, and go over the bike. Unfortunately it's scheduled to rain for the next five days, and it's pouring out now, so either we have to reschedule or I'll have to trailer it up. I'd sooner just trailer it up and get it done, as the seller wasn't even sure the last time the oil was changed. 
I have a 170C and a 171C KN oil filter here, but both are shorter than the factory oil filter.
