Can a windshield for 41mm fit 39mm?

Can a windshield for 41mm fit 39mm?
Friend of mine totaled his Night Train and still has the quick release windshield (C Clamp style) and offered it to me for free. It's a 41mm setup, and I have 39mm forks. Can it be safely shimmed (rubber inner tube?) to fit? If not, is it dick of me to sell it only to buy a windshield that WILL fit my bike? I did offer money for it, he only wants a case of beer.

Great question. After you try shimming it, let us know how it works out. I don't know if the center to center distance on the 39 mm forks is the same as the 41mm. If so, it would seem shimming might work.

All bikes i am aware of with 41mm forks have wideglide trees, the issue will be the distance between forks.I am in the market for 41mm windshield clamps if it don't work out for you.

I have 49mm clamps on my 41mm wide glide
I took flat rubber bungee and used that as a spacer, no problems with that set yp
Get some adhesive to attach it to the clamp and you should be good to go
also, before the bungee straps, I cut an old leather belt. that worked just as well
