Bike broke down

Bike broke down
Hey guys and gals....
I rode to a run yesterday....
And while on the way my engine and battery light came on, After I got there and parked, I shut my bike down and then tried to start it again and nothing....
After a awhile i sent a brother to get his trailer and when he came back with it I tried my bike again, it started right up.
Turned it off and tried again and nothing, so we loaded it up and took it home.
We where thinking stator at first or dead battery....but after sitting it starts..so we checked the batter with bike running and it's getting 17-18 volts or amps....to much, so now where thingking Voltage regulator....
Am I right to think it's the Voltage regulator....?
And can you believe I called 3 diff dealers in the area and not a one had one....Plenty of shirts and do dads but not one VR....
So I went on line to Dr V-twin and put in a parts request....Ill get one from him and save a little money....

The guy doing the check new what he was doing...I dont know the proper term myself.
Key fob battery is farely new....
We check the battery cables and the ground..All tight

And Dr-Twin already replyed to my parts request even though its Sunday.
They already placed the order for me....

Let us know if it happens when you get the new voltage regulator. I had same problem last year. Dealer said tighten battery cables. I did and didn't have any problems since. I should note it happened on a day when it was 100 + degrees out.
