i'm thinking about getting some 16" super chubby ape hangers from wild1 but i'm really worried about comfort. i currently have the stock bars which are mini-apes and i've had no "comfort" problems with them. (Does anyone know how tall stock mini-apes are?) the only uncomfortable feeling i've ever had is my *** and lower back which i'm gonna try to fix
I've read in some posts that people are get a numbing sensation and I don't want to spend the money and find out its uncomfortable. I often ride for 2-6 hours with my buds on the weekends and don't want to have to stop 2 hours into it because my fingers are numb or my shoulders are sore.
I also have the 16's I do like them......I think that the 12.5 look better..........I am comfortable with the bars, however after riding long trips my legs get tired........not my uper body.....this did not happen with stock bars......I think that everybody will have a different comfort level......I fixed my comfort problems with putting on floorboards....worked for me......LO.......
Do you think that if I go with the "fat" 1 1/4 inch HD miniape (10") and a 4" risers I must change the wires or could I get the original ones?
The fat ape HD it's chromed and I could go with the internal wires.
I could be wrong, I have checked out my bike cause Was going to put a set of 10' apes on it, I think any rise in bars will require a new set of wires from Harley ... if I am wrong someone please let me know ...
I put a set of mini apes on my lowrider and left the 4.5 inch risers on.I could probably go another inch or two with the stock wiring. Make sure to loosen up the tank.If you need more wire you can just buy extensions.

I think there's a myth about apes and the assumed lack of comfort. Unless you're going super large (18+) or you push them past the line of the forks, I think you'll have absolutely no comfort problems. The pullback on alot of them (Wild1s, for instance) is quite dramatic so the ends of the bars are sometimes closer than the stock mini-apes at the same tilt angle. That has been my experience (which isn't much!).
