Default Ape Hanger Comfort?

i'm thinking about getting some 16" super chubby ape hangers from wild1 but i'm really worried about comfort. i currently have the stock bars which are mini-apes and i've had no "comfort" problems with them. (Does anyone know how tall stock mini-apes are?) the only uncomfortable feeling i've ever had is my *** and lower back which i'm gonna try to fix with a new seat.

I've read in some posts that people are get a numbing sensation and I don't want to spend the money and find out its uncomfortable. I often ride for 2-6 hours with my buds on the weekends and don't want to have to stop 2 hours into it because my fingers are numb or my shoulders are sore.

I am 5'10" and i measured from the end of my middle finger to my shoulder blade and it was 28" long. I wasn't sure if there was a general rule of thumb for height and arm length.

For those of you who've gotten ape hangers i'd like to know your opinion on comfort. I know they look sweet but if they make you go through agonizing pain after an hour ride i don't want to get them.

let me know, thx

stock mini apes are 10" that plus the stock clamp [2"] gives you a total of roughly 12" rise[depending how far you lean them fwd. or back] personally i just bought a set of flanders 12.5 " from another member of this forum..and i think they'll suit me fine...i'm 5'-11"
i'll be sure to post pics when i install....still waiting on some other parts so i can do everything at once...
good rule of thumb would be to rock your bars vertical , sit on the bike like normal....and raise your hands up about 4"above your grips ...you'll get some idea of how high theyre gonna be.

hope this helps...good luck!

I think the mini's are 10".I tried 12.5 Chubby's on mine for about 4 months and then went with the 16's.That was the start of last summer and about 10,000 miles ago.Love um.The Chubby's are measured differently than the factory bars so the 12.5's look much taller than stock.The first pic will be the16's and the other the 12.5's. Many long rides and very comfortable....Russ
ps. I'm 5-8

I went from the factory mini apes to 16 inch gimp hangers and i love them. I am 6-2, i ride with my bars pushed forward so i wouldnt want to go taller.

went to 14" apes. i'm also 5'-10". 14s are right at shoulder height phor me. having my hands in that position doesn't cause them to get numb. if you go that route you shouldn't have to worry.

ORIGINAL: Hey Joe

My stock minis measured to be 10 inches. I went with 16s and have them pushed forward. For me they are alot more comfortable than stock. I rode a 600 mile day the week after I installed them and they were great. I know some people have problems with thier hands falling asleep but not me.
is that a picture of the 16" on the right?

Do you think that if I go with the "fat" 1 1/4 inch HD miniape (10") and a 4" risers I must change the wires or could I get the original ones?
The fat ape HD it's chromed and I could go with the internal wires.
