Default 2001 fxd metal chunks in trans HELP!!!
Shifting from 2nd to 3rd the shifter kicks back down on my foot. It stays in gear but it just doesn't feel right. So yesterday I drained the gear oil and found a fewetal prices 1/8 in long but when I pulled the trans top cover everything looked fine. Bearings were good teeth didn't look chipped. The only thing I noticed was that the shift pawl had some play in it and looked like something had nicked it a few times. When I grab the linkage and move it back and forth I get roughly a half Inch maybe 3.25 of an inch of play. Any feed back would be appreciated. May e just a shift pawl adjustment???

I'm going to say you probably need to open that up and see what's going on. If you're having issues between 2-3, I suspect it will only get worse.
