Default Left/Right Shock Different?

Hi everyone, I'm new here and this is my first post.

I bought a used 03 FXD. I read in the manual that there are 15 settings(clicks) on the Dyna shock. On my bike, the right side will make 5 adjustments before it drops. On the left side it's only 3. Is this normal? I can't image that the left and right adjust differently. Is the left side broken by chance?

I appreciate any insight. I've searched a fair amount on adjusting the shocks, but havn't seen any reference to this.

Is it only 3 clicks in either direction?

If you have not turned them both all the way in both directions, how do you know how many adjustment clicks you actually have?
Apparently they just were not adjusted to the same position.

dumb question, but how far to the end. I turned one clockwise for 15 minutes. It just kept getting to 5 and then dropping, almost like a stripped bolt that loosens once tightened

Most shocks have 5 positions (4 clicks) for adjusting the pre-load. The spring collar should come to a definite stop at the lowest/softest setting (on my shock that would be turning ccw). To make the shock stiffer, rotate one click at a time to suit your preference. Rotating the collar past the last position is not advised. Hope that helps.
