Default DYI cam install question.

I have a "Stage 1" 2011 Fat Bob (FXDF) and am looking at the TW-555 cams. I am thinking of doing the install myself. Does not seem that hard to do. I have the manual and have watched a few videos. I plan to call Fuelmoto to see if they have a map for my setup first.

Question: I have almost 4K on the bike and was wondering if I need to replace the cam bearings that I see on the videos of cam installs?

Most folks would say that if you have the engine open might as well do it for peace of mind. I did my cams myself at 19k and did not change the cam bearings and have had zero issues related to that.

A map from FM would be ok to run your bike after the swap but I'd suggest getting *your* bike tuned. I'd invest in a much better tuner than the pcIII.

It's a personal choice i think... but 4000 miles... them bearings are still pretty new...shouldn't be any issues running them...i had about 50000 miles on mine so i swapped them... i (personally), would go ahead and swap them i think...it was only $20.00 more ...(rented the tools from autozone)... Again i thonk it's a choice but leaving them in won't be a problem...

Thanks for the input! I will sleep on it a bit and see which way to go.

The Torrington bearings are just better quality so for me it's worth it for the upgrade not that your factory bearings are worn. Like the previous poster said, you can borrow a puller from most auto part stores for free, just leave a deposit for the price of the tool, and the bearings are cheap.

Autozone had the proper removal and installation tools for the cam bearings?

Before investing a new tuner, check with your tuner "guy" first. I assumed my PCIII would eventually need to be replaced, but was wrestling with doing it sooner rather than later. CAlled my local dyno guy and he talked me out of it He tunes dynojet products and SERT's. He told me if the Power COmmander was working, there was no need to spend money on a replacement when he could tune it just as good. That was what my particular guy said, so YMMV. Not trying to turn this into a tuner topic. I am interested in how your install goes if you choose to tackle it.

I am going to check with Fuelmoto where I bought the PCIII pre-tuned for my stage one. Will also check with the local guy here OKC Thunder Cycles about the Dyno part. Guess I will just replace the bearings if I can get all the right tools to do it.
