I just bought a switchback and want to change the pipes to a Vance and Hines slip on. I have heard you need to change the air cleaner and dyno the bike and some say you don't. Anybody have experience with this and have an insight. Thanks wes

Hey wes, When you get those pipes; bring them across the street and have that guy help you put them on. EZ install Bring the grips too
My wife bought a switchback this past spring. I installed the Vance & Hines slip-on because she wanted a better sound than stock. Sounds great! Nice deep rumble without being too loud or obnoxious. And it runs great too. We didn't do air, ECM download nor any tuning. No need to do anything else unless you add stage 1 high flow air kit, in which case you should then do at least the ECM download if not a tuner.
just the pipe is no problem, i am running it and a stock crossbones aircleaner on mine
and so long as you dont have to pay THAT guy across the street to do it otherwise it is a whole 10 minute job to swap out the slip on especially on a brand new bike.
just make sure you torque the bolts and clamp(with a torque wrench) to what vance & hines says to and you will be happy

Actually you can do the pipes and ac without a problem. Some people just dont get it. 07 and later HD's will run just fine with exhaust/air cleaner upgrades and you do not have to do anything to the ECM at all. Closed loop EFI operation uses feedback from the O2 sensor to maintain a constant AFR, even if changes are made to the exhaust and air cleaner.

sorry but i disagree, as they say opinions are like a$$holes and there are many different schools of thought on this subject.
personally i have seen what a lean condition can do to a piston and quite frankly as lean as these things run from the factory its my opinion that the efi cant compensate enough to handle both, so at bare minimum i would run XiEDs if you decide to change both and again its my opinion that its better to be safe than sorry.
